The 49ers had the NFL\u2019s stingiest pass defense this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there might not be a more explosive passing team in the league than the Chiefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \n49ers\u2019 37-20 win in Sunday\u2019s NFC Championship Game against the Packers \nset up a Super Bowl matchup of those strengths after the Chiefs beat the\n Titans 35-24 in the AFC Championship Game earlier Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It \nmarks the Chiefs\u2019 first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, ending the \nthird-longest drought after the Lions (54) and Jets (51). The Chiefs \nbeat Minnesota 23-7 in Super Bowl IV; they had appeared in just two AFC \ntitle games since \u2014 losing after the 1993 season to the Bills and last \nyear in overtime to the Patriots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAndy\n Reid is as good of a coach as there is in this league,\u201d 49ers head \ncoach Kyle Shanahan said of his K.C. counterpart. \u201cI think he\u2019s a \nfor-sure Hall of Famer. I know how good Andy is. I know how good their \nquarterback is. I know how good their team is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarterback\n Patrick Mahomes, the reigning MVP, did not replicate his 2018 numbers \nof 5,000-plus passing yards and 50 touchdowns this season and missed two\n games with a knee injury. He still threw for 4,031 yards with 26 \ntouchdowns, five interceptions and a passer rating of 105.3 for a Kansas\n City team that finished 12-4 to earn the AFC\u2019s No. 2 seed.<\/p>\n
